Myo Kyaw Oo
Myo Kyaw Oo, MBBS, DPM, DM, is the Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Medical Officer of the Bellevue Hospital and Program Manager of the Drug Court Treatment and Rehabilitation Program in Kingston, Jamaica. He is one of the visiting Consultant Psychiatrists to the Department of Correctional Services.

He received his medical degree in 1982 and postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatry in 1988 from Institute of Medicine (1), Rangoon University, Union of Myanmar (Burma) and received Doctor of Medicine (Psychiatry) degree in 2002 from the University of the West Indies. His thesis paper titled “A Study of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Among Jamaica Constabulary Force Personnel in a Given Geographical Area in Jamaica” received Faculty of Medical Science Dean’s prize and Association of Consultant Physicians Award for the best study in 2002.

He is also a recipient of the Commissioner’s Award, Department of Correction for Outstanding Achievement in 2008. He served as an Army Medical Officer and later as an Army Psychiatrist from 1984-1990 with the Ministry of Defense, Union of Myanmar (Burma). He migrated to Jamaica in 1990. His interests include substance abuse, forensic psychiatry, application of therapeutic jurisprudence principles in the judicial process, disaster psychiatry, psychological trauma and PTSD and Armed Forces psychiatry.
