“Court-Supervised Treatment Alternatives to Incarceration for
Drug-Dependent Offenders: the Drug Policy Agenda”

The Organization of the American States (OAS) through the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security and the School of Public Affairs of American University, with the support of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), and the International Association of Drug Treatment Courts (IADTC) hosted the workshop entitled “Court-Supervised Treatment Alternatives to Incarceration for Drug-Dependent Offenders: the Drug Policy Agenda” early November in Washington D.C.
The group visited the DC Drug Court, where they were briefed in how the
system works at the nation capital. After a great conversation with "insert
name" they visited the courts where they observed
the Court presided by the Honorable Judge Hamilton where they saw real cases take
place. After the visit, the group was taken to the laboratory of the court where
they process and test urine samples. It was a valuable an interesting visit that
showed the group the functioning and the system of DC Drug Courts. This visit
took place thanks to the support of the DC Superior Court team (Mr. Michael
McGuinness - Deputy Director, Treatment Programs; Ms. Rashida Mims,
Special Assistant, Treatment Programs; Mr. Jerome Robinson, Director of
Forensic Research; Dr. Richard Taylor, Supervisor, Forensic Toxicology Drug
Testing Laboratory; and Honorable Associate Judge Wendell P. Gardner,
Superior Court Drug Intervention Program)
The participants were kindly invited to visit the Courts of Washington D.C.
And the Laboratory, explaining the process that takes place to test a sample.
