MULTILATERAL EVALUATION MECHANISM (MEM) - VISIT TO BOLIVIA

 

PRESENTATION OF THE MEM EVALUATION REPORT ON DRUG CONTROL FOR BOLIVIA

The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS), serving as the hemispheric policy forum on the multifaceted aspects of the drug problem - carried out a mission to La Paz, Bolivia. The Executive Secretariat (ES) of CICAD along with the OAS Office in Bolivia held meetings with government officials on April 7-8, 2015.


The ES/CICAD mission comprised Ms. Sofia Kosmas, Acting Coordinator of the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM), Ms. Karen Sanjines, MEM Specialist and was joined in-country by Ambassador Eduardo Enrique Reina Garcia, OAS Representative to Bolivia.

The MEM Sixth Evaluation Report on Drug Control for Bolivia was presented to Vice-Minister Felipe Caceres of the Vice Ministry of Social Defense and Controlled Substances during a presentation to senior Bolivian Government officials. Among some of the Bolivian officials were from, the Ministry of Government, Ministry of Defense and the National Anti-drug Trafficking Council (CONALTID) comprised of various government institutions.   

Meetings were also held with Mr. Alberto Palacios-Hardy, Counsellor and Head of Cooperation, Embassy of Canada and with Mr. Donn-Allan Titus, Political, Economic and Commercial Counselor, U.S. Embassy Bolivia to present the MEM Report on Drug Control for Bolivia. Both the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States have been consistent donors to the MEM.
