Hemispheric Drug Strategy

A new city alliance EU-LAC CITY PARTNERSHIP IN DRUG DEMAND REDUCTION, was created in Coimbra, Portugal (September 2010). This alliance will cover all areas of drug and alcohol abuse prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. The new EU-LAC Partnerships is one of outcomes of the DECLARATION OF LUGO ON THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF DRUG USE AND DEPENDENCE, approved in Lugo, Spain (April 2010), under the framework of the EU-LAC Drug Treatment City Partnerships initiative.

Outcomes

Number of EU-LAC participants: has been ten times more than expected. Instead of the 250 people budgeted in the EU-LAC project, about 2,000 people have participated in EU-LAC activities, not counting those who accessed the EU-LAC virtual environment.

EU-LAC Drug Treatment City Partnerships is an initiative funded by the European Commission, and coordinated by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of the American States (OAS). The content of this publication does not necessarily reflect the position of the EU or the OAS.
