Project
Description: |
Recognizing
the increasing interest in finding alternatives to incarceration for
non-violent drug offenders throughout the region, CICAD is providing
technical support to countries interested in planning alternatives systems
to divert offenders into substance abuse treatment and reinsertion
programs instead of prison. Projects aim to provide information about the potential benefits of drug courts and social
reintegration strategies, as well as to assist in the creation and
implementation of viable, cost-effective solutions to over-burdened prison
systems.
|
|
Objectives: |
To
support national drug councils and other relevant agencies in
the development of alternative sentencing processes for
drug-involved and young offenders as a part of national crime
reduction plans, demand reduction priorities, and relief for
overcrowded penal institutions. |
