Project Description:

Project commenced with a CICAD working group developing of draft guidelines on the essential components of a national drug treatment system, and mechanisms for appropriate referral of patients within a continuum of care, depending on their diagnosis. These were considered and approved during the Fifth Meeting of CICAD's Expert Group on Demand Reduction on October 22-24, 2003 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Objectives:

That member states integrate planning for substance abuse treatment as part of their overall health planning.

 

The Final Report (pdf) from the Expert Group meeting includes recommendations for the development of national drug treatment systems according to these guidelines.
