STANDARDS OF CARE IN DRUG ABUSE TREATMENT |

Workshop for the Training on Quality Norms and the Colombian National Treatment System of Drugs DependencyOn December 20 of 2005 the Colombian Ministry of Social Welfare, approved the resolution #4750 that defines the conditions for the formation of Drug-Rehab Care Centers (DCC) and the Pharmacy Services, at the annex: Instrument for the Verification of the Fulfillment of the Scientific and Technological Capacity Conditions for the habilitation of the DCC. The resolution, was created in base to the results and data showed at the "Diagnostic Assessment of the Situation of Centers for the Treatment, Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Psychoactive Substance Users in Colombia" made by the General Direction of Service Quality of the Ministry of Social Welfare. (Presentation). The Ministry of Social Welfare and CICAD held a two-day national workshop with 52 representatives from all of Colombia’s provincial departments (equivalent to states). The objective was to train those in charge of rehabilitation in the local drug treatment centers, pursuant to resolution 4750 of December 20, 2005. The workshop was divided into four parts: 1) general introduction about CICAD’s hemispheric policy, and specifically demand reduction; 2) a description of the status of service providers in Colombia; 3) a presentation on resolution 4750 and its annex; and 4) an exercise showing how to apply the instrument used to determine compliance with the standards.
