Project
Description: |
Ports
range in size and traffic volume of ship and container or other cargo
moving through them. Typically there are a variety of public agencies
and private sector companies working in these ports. All of this adds to
the complexity of effectively monitoring, identifying and interdicting
illicit drugs and related contraband moving through the ports.
Some member states have
developed special programs that have been instrumental in reducing the
vulnerability of their ports. Typically these programs promote
interagency cooperation and the active involvement of the private sector
in the process. CICAD has been conducting national and sub-regional
seminars to promote the implementation of similar programs in other
member states.
|
|
Objectives: |
- to strengthen and promote inter-agency cooperation in port security and
the control of illicit drugs, chemicals and related contraband
- to promote private
sector involvement in port security
- to promote cooperation and information exchange.
