STRUCTURE:

The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs is composed of 11 members nominated by the Minister of Health.

FUNCTIONS:

The functions of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs are as follows:
· Advise the Minister of Health on drug related matters, both nationally and internationally;
· Supervise the activities of the National Drug Prevention Unit.

STRUCTURE:

The NPDU is composed of three co-ordinators for the following Areas:
·          School Prevention
·          Community Development;
·          Information and Research.

FUNCTIONS:

The functions of the NPDU are as follows:
·          Serve as Secretariat for the Drug Advisory Council;
·          Harmonize and co-ordinate all drug related activities in Dominica;
·          Implement projects and programs derived from the Council;
·          Serve as a National Resource and Information center.

FUNCTIONS:

The functions of the Ministry of Legal Affairs are as follows:
· Prepare legislation for the control of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and the confiscation of the proceeds of drug trafficking;
· Prosecute drug offenders.

The Office of the Commissioner of Police is composed of the following:
·          Drug Squad Unit;
·          Special Service Unit;
·          Special Branch Unit;
·          Marine Unit;
·          Criminal Investigations Department.

FUNCTIONS:

The functions of the Office of the Commissioner of Police are:
·          Suppress illegal drugs;
·          Eradicate drug plantations;
·          Prosecute offenders;
·          Carry out surveillance;
·          Rehabilitate;
·          Educate programs targeted at youths.

The Adult Education Division of the Ministry of Community

STRUCTURE:

Development and Gender Affairs includes the following:
·          Minister for Community Development and Gender Affairs;
·          Permanent Secretary;
·          Adult Education Officer;
·          Assistant Adult Education Officer;
·          Field Operation Supervisor;
·          Seven zone officers;
·          Seven zonal committees;
·          Facilitators;
·          Learners.

The Ministry of Community Development and Gender Affairs is composed of the following:
·          Adult Education Division;
·          Welfare Division;
·          Co-operatives;
·          Local Government Division;
·          Women's Bureau.

FUNCTIONS:

The Ministry of Community Development and Gender Affairs has the following functions:
·      Steer programs towards the eradication of drugs;
·      The Adult Education Division assists village-based committees in organization of talks, discussions and lectures, finding the necessary resource persons to speak on the subject, participating in organised workshops and demonstrations, and providing information on the topic through its New Learners Page;
·      The Welfare Division, through its probation service, contacts young persons who are engaged in the use and misuse of illegal substances and is involve in the rehabilitation of such persons;
