CICAD Offers Project Management Course to National Drug Commission Staff![]() Workshop instructor George Montalbán leads discussion. This year CICAD has been promoting improved project management skills for the staffs of national drug control commissions by holding two-day workshops on the logical framework methodology throughout the region . The logical framework methodology is a widely accepted approach to promote consistent, systematic planning, execution and evaluation of projects. The emphasis is on using the approach within a team environment so the face-to-face exchange enhances the quality of the training. This series of workshops has been sponsored by CICAD's Institutional Development and the Educational Development and Research sections, bringing in an outside consultant, George Montalbán, to lead the course and serve as a hands-on resource. Four workshop were scheduled: in August in Antigua, Guatemala for Central American participants (Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama and the Dominican Republic); in September in Caracas, Venezuela for the Andean countries (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela); in November in Paraguay for the Southern Cone countries (Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Brazil), and early next year for Caribbean countries (including Guyana, Suriname y Belice). Participants brainstorm together to specify project components at the Venezuela workshop. A total of 56 staff members participated in the first three workshops. In addition, the Institutional Development program has offered courses in Argentina and Mexico on new work models, high-performance skill teamwork, motivational instruments and adaptation to change. A total of 75 staff members received training. CICAD has also supported the online version of this logical framework course, which is offered by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). The course, available in English and Spanish, is free of charge. |
